Katrafay (Cedrelopsis grevei) is a slender shrub growing 2 to 15 meters tall that grows in southern and western Madagascar. It is found in dense but water-poor forests, sometimes up to 900 meters above sea level. The tree's bark is rough and crevassed, its color ranging from gray to brownish. It is from this bark that the essential oil is extracted after distillation. The bark is sometimes gathered into balls before distillation. The resulting essential oil is liquid, mobile, and its color varies from light yellow to orange. photo emmagem.com Katrafay essential oil mainly contains sesquiterpenes (over 50%), which are very varied and quite unique. This is probably what makes it a particularly effective essential oil for inflammatory phenomena, pain, and skin problems. A fairly wide range of actions, then. Katrafay essential oil appears to be a superb decongestant, but also a good antihistamine and antipruritic for persistent skin disorders. It is often cited in treatment protocols for skin allergies, eczema, psoriasis, or any form of pruritus.

Here are two recipes from Dominique Baudoux that use this Essential Oil:

Contact Eczema:

Apply a few drops of this treatment oil three times a day until you see a noticeable improvement. Avoid contact with the allergen that caused the contact eczema beforehand.

Repairing balm for chapped lips:

  • Katrafay HECT: 0.1ml;
  • HECT of Rosemary verbenone: 0.1 ml;
  • HECT of Cistus ladanifer: 0.1 ml;
  • HV Argan: 1ml;
  • HV jojoba: 1ml;
  • Organic shea butter: 13 grams.
Apply morning and evening to chapped skin. Can also nourish healthy lip tissue. What is certain is that Cedrelopsis grevei extracts have a bright future ahead of them. So, while we're at it, why deprive ourselves of this wonderful ingredient in our anti-aging formulas or daytime skincare?
