Make a custom perfume with essential oils!

The holiday season is fast approaching, and finding the perfect gift isn't always easy. During this festive season, we're offering you an original gift idea: a homemade perfume! Indeed, when you consider that today's perfumes sold in stores are almost all made from synthetic ingredients, sometimes allergenic, and often very far removed from the Nature they're supposed to evoke, why not make your own very personal perfume with essential oils?

How to create a perfume using Essential Oils?

For a balanced fragrance, add 30 to 35 drops of essential oils to 30 ml of 70-proof alcohol. Use a glass bottle (amber or otherwise) and a spray or roll-on applicator. Depending on your tastes, start with woody or resinous base notes : sandalwood, vetiver, myrrh, cedar, or frankincense. These will build the fragrance and linger over time thanks to their subtle trail.

Mix these essences with the essential oils of the heart note (often floral notes like ylang or rose, geranium or lavender) and finally the essences of the top note (most often citrus fruits like bergamot, orange or lemon).

Let the essential oils blend for a moment. Smell and adjust if necessary. Then add the mixture (30 drops or approximately 1.5 ml of essential oils) to your alcohol base.

Note that the fragrance will not be the same as the one you end up with. If you're giving it as a Christmas gift, make sure you know that it's only after a two-week rest that you'll be able to truly discover its finest fragrance and enjoy it to the fullest. Always store your homemade perfumes in a tightly closed glass bottle, preferably at cool or room temperature.

Luxury or deep need?

Essential oil-based perfume is an invisible accessory, but it's less frivolous than you might think. Indeed, homemade perfumes made with essential oils are superior in their finesse and beneficial properties.

It's true that nature is the most admirable of alchemists. Consider all the fine molecules contained in aromatic essences. Fulfilling your olfactory desires can also have therapeutic benefits.

Indeed, essential oils have a real effect on nervous metabolism thanks to their direct passage through the limbic brain. A scented fragrance of mandarin, bitter orange, or sweet orange, for example, brings calm and relaxation. In short, we can say that a natural fragrance can influence our moods and behaviors, or even inspire us to take action or adopt an attitude.

So, whether it's for the end-of-year celebrations, or simply to treat yourself and start the year off right, let's wish for scents of love and kindness!
