Palliative Care: Essential Oils in the hospital

Essential Oils are an asset for palliative care teams In recent years, scientific aromatherapy has gradually penetrated the walls of our hospitals. However, progress is slow and the training needs of the teams are numerous. However, many palliative care services have understood the benefit of essential oils in hospitals.

The 18th congress of the SFAP - French Society for Support and Palliative Care - which was recently held in Strasbourg was the ideal opportunity to take stock of the issue with Dominique Baudoux, pharmacist and aromatologist CEO of Pranarôm. We find some photos of the event and some formulas adapted to palliative care.

Essential Oils in a hospital?

Aromatherapy in hospitals remains an exception. And yet, when we listen to the testimonies of members of hospital departments where essential oils have been introduced, we are faced with very positive experiences both for the health of patients and for the medical teams: “By examining the figures for years where ravintsara essential oil was diffused in the rooms, we noticed that the number of nosocomial infections was significantly lower. » (JMB, emergency doctor). “Patients appreciate it and pressure ulcer care becomes more pleasant thanks to the fragrance. » (MCD, nurse) “We have very good results for treating the side effects of chemotherapy and in particular for mouth ulcers and digestion problems. The result is conclusive and patients are more relaxed. » (GV, doctor)

The new Mouscron Hospital Center, in Belgium, is a pioneer in the use of essential oils in its services. Unfortunately, as medical teams are poorly trained and still not aware of the effectiveness of essential oils, progress is slow. It is also very often individuals motivated by their experience within hospital services who bring essential oils into practice. Aromatherapy therefore owes a lot to nurses, who are increasingly convinced of the benefit of aromatic care for patients.

In France and Belgium, the most receptive healthcare teams are certainly those in palliative care, maternity wards and aesthetic nursing who collaborate with palliative care, psychiatry but also and above all oncology services. andnbsp;

Dominique Baudoux at the 18th SFAP Congress: “Beyond borders”

Between June 28 and 30, 2012, Strasbourg welcomed professionals from the palliative care sector for the Congress of the French Society of Support and Palliative Care. A leading event to study the contours of the medical discipline of palliative care, today with many faces.

Dominique Baudoux at the SFAP congress in June 2012 On Friday June 29, Dominique Baudoux (pharmacist aromatologist and CEO of Pranarôm) participated in a plenary session devoted to “Complementary Medicines”. His speech, highly anticipated by the public, had the theme “Aromatherapy: Myth or reality? »

During his presentation, which aimed both to illustrate the practice of aromatherapy by care teams and to support the scientific arguments which prove the effectiveness of the protocols, Dominique Baudoux was able to recall some simple formulas and others more complex. We provide you below with some formulas taken from the works and presentations of Dominique Baudoux.

Pranarôm in Madagascar: a beautiful summer... in winter!

The Aromabe site, founded by Pranarôm in Madagascar We told you about it a little over two months ago, the AROMABE project led by Pranarôm in Madagascar is doing quite well. But did you know that while the summer sun (when it wants to) warms us, the island of Madagascar is going through its winter season? Our Malagasy friends present on site in Antsirabe therefore gave us the pleasure of sharing some moments of life in this calmer season for the cultivation of aromatic plants. Pranarôm takes you to the other side of the world... follow his guide! AROMABE, the living branch of Pranarôm in Madagascar As a reminder if you are new to us, Aromabe is the name of the project led by the Pranarôm laboratory in Madagascar. The aim is to create a sustainable and organic farm in Antsirabe, specializing in the cultivation of aromatic plants and the distillation of essential oils. We also told you about the official inauguration of our farm premises, but also about the children of our community there who we love to see develop so much. Malagasy winter, a special season While our northern hemisphere enjoys the pleasures of summer, Madagascar experiences winter at its own pace. Temperatures are colder than usual, and the season is drier. The dry winter season is more acute from June to September, and temperatures can be very cool. No question of forgetting your little wool for the evenings! The temperature easily drops to around 5 degrees, especially in Antsirabe which is the coldest city in Madagascar. This is where the nerve center of our Aromabe operation is located. Plants to pamper As you see in the image, the organic marjoram that Pranarôm grows in Madagascar is in latency. It is certainly larger than when we introduced it to you a few months ago in our previous article, but its growth has slowed down. Organic marjoram from Pranarôm in Antsirabe... it grows! As for geranium, a much more fragile species, it is useful to protect it from the cold by "mulching" to insulate it as much as possible. In the evening, at regular intervals, our farmers even light fires in the alleys to increase the temperature of the crops. Organic geranium from Pranarôm, well wrapped ;-) Animals, daily partners The community gathered around the Aromabe site is large and has been growing constantly since 2008. Aromabe today has 72 Malagasy employees, most of whom have decided to settle in the direct vicinity of the site with their families. All these little people must obviously be able to cultivate the land easily but also be able to move around. And for all this, cattle and zebu in particular are a precious help. Aromabe is also a real farmyard. Geese are raised there, which are appreciated for their eggs which delight everyone. An ever denser community Pranarôm, through Aromabe, also pursues a social and economic objective. The members of the existing teams are in fact united and invited to live in the place. To help them, brick ovens were made available. These ovens also made it possible to manufacture bricks which today constitute the solid walls of the houses recently built around the farm and the distillery. It should also be noted that the entire free zone allocated to the exploitation has been walled, with bricks made on site of course. A village was born in the suburbs of Antsirabe; Always more enthusiastic people are working on the Aromabe site AROMABE therefore continues to delight us! To support our sustainable development project, and to bring aromatherapy to life in your homes, don't forget to discover the many Pranarôm products on our site .
