Dominique Baudoux, the founder of Pranarôm, has managed for 25 years to restore the nobility of essential oils thanks to the creation of a real research laboratory, HECT and HACT labels, but also thanks to training and information. This is why he travels the globe to answer everyone's questions. Visionary and passionate, he gives us some thoughts on the future of aromatherapy.
Why reach the general public about the future of scientific aromatherapy?
After 25 years of teaching aromatherapy to health professionals around the world and as many testimonies of their superb activities, we can say that essential oils are known to everyone thanks to their immediate effectiveness in many areas. They appeal to a lot of consumers who are tempted to engage in self-medication with these plant quintessences. There is, therefore, a real need to guide these uses through the dissemination of quality information to perceive all the benefits without experiencing side effects.
Are Essential Oils really so effective that they could be considered medicines?
Let us point out from the outset that old medications only contained Essential Oils as active ingredients before they gave way to chemically synthesized molecules. It is thanks to new analytical technologies that the mechanisms of action of the molecules contained in essential oils are today very well known to us. It is no longer simply a question of empiricism but of a real science whose success is coming to light in areas where the medical world is awaiting solutions.
Are you saying that Essential Oils could replace medicines?
Although this possibility exists, we must not lose sight of all the benefits provided by synthetic drugs. There is no point in choosing between all-synthetic and all-natural, but rather consider the day when essential oils will be combined with medicine to reduce the harmful side effects and overcome the disease more easily. Aromatherapy will then be a complementary therapeutic means. Essential oils alone already represent a remarkable alternative treatment to medications if the patient expresses the wish.
What are the areas affected by scientific aromatherapy?
New viral pathologies, the numerous autoimmune pathologies, the increasing resistance of microbes, diseases linked to pollution, etc. force the therapist to innovate and to research what would be useful and effective in these situations for which the medical world is currently without answers. Aromatherapy today provides very credible solutions thanks to research, publications, clinical studies and our rigorous and rational approach.
Why this message to the consumer?
The future of scientific aromatherapy is the future of medicine. Collective awareness of the benefit of essential oils in supporting the patient is essential to provide improved well-being and an additional effective means of taking care of their health.
