The benefits of castor oil

Les bienfaits de l'huile végétale de Ricin

Castor oil is a natural beauty secret! Known for its many benefits, this oil works wonders on the skin and for nail and hair growth. Want to know everything about this plant-based oil?

Castor vegetable oil

ORIGIN OF OUR CASTOR OIL

India produces approximately 80% of the world's castor beans, 18% of which come from a region known as Kutch. A barren, almost treeless landscape with no irrigation or rain, it's a place where it's difficult to make a living from the land. However, the castor bean plant is very hardy and is one of the few crops that can be grown in this country.

HOW TO GET ORGANIC CASTOR OIL

Castor Oil (Ricinus communis) is obtained from the seeds of castor oil. Castor oil is a tree native to tropical Africa, but is also found in regions with a climate favorable to its cultivation. Castor oil must be grown according to the principles of organic farming in order to extract 100% organic, 100% pure and natural oil. A castor oil seed is on average 50% oil and it takes approximately 1800 seeds to obtain 1 liter of oil. It can be obtained by several extraction methods, but to be in accordance with our quality criteria, we require that it be extracted by cold pressing.

This method involves pressing the seeds without any heat treatment using a mechanical screw press. The oil will then preserve all of its qualities since its components have not been subjected to heat.

Many benefits

As its name suggests, Castor Oil is composed mainly of ricinoleic acid, which means it is composed of a very large majority of monounsaturated fatty acids ensuring optimal protection of the skin and its appendages. 5% of the polyunsaturated fatty acids are from the omega 6 series. They help with the resistance and repair of skin tissue, nails and hair. The remaining 3% are saturated fatty acids.

This oil has many benefits:

  • Care for fragile, brittle nails and eyebrows.
  • Hair care: strengthens and protects hair, makes it shiny.
  • Softening and healing properties for the skin.

Don't be surprised if its texture is a little sticky and viscous when you first use it, this is completely normal!

Finally, it has been used since the dawn of time as a laxative with a mode of action that irritates the intestinal wall.

In practice: usage tips

To nourish the hair

This oil moisturizes the scalp, making hair shinier and more supple . But that's not all: it accelerates growth.

Once or twice a week, apply the oil to all of your dry hair, massaging in; cover your hair with a warm towel and leave it on for 1 hour (even overnight if possible); then wash your hair with shampoo.

To strengthen nails

If you have weak, soft or brittle nails , this vegetable oil is the ideal solution if you want to strengthen them and allow them to grow properly.

How to do it?

  • Every night before going to bed, apply one drop to each nail; then massage the nail, paying particular attention to the cuticles.

To promote the growth of eyelashes, eyebrows and beards

As with hair, this vegetable oil allows for faster growth of eyelashes and eyebrows while moisturizing them. The texture of castor oil is quite "viscous," so it is best to apply it with a cotton swab to avoid getting it in the eyes.

Against dark circles

Dark circles under your eyes can also be reduced with castor oil. The reason? Castor oil's moisturizing and softening properties.

  • Massage 1 drop once a day into the dark circle.

You should know that castor oil also acts as a makeup remover! It's a good idea to kill two birds with one stone. Rumor has it that Cleopatra used this oil to remove her makeup. So if the Egyptian queen did it...

For pigment spots

Are those little brown spots on your face or hands bothering you? Castor oil can be a great ally, especially thanks to its healing properties . Apply 2 drops morning and evening to the affected area.

Against wrinkles

Don't hesitate to apply castor oil to wrinkles, but in small quantities , and too much can clog pores. Apply 1 to 2 drops to the affected areas once a day.

Create your own lip gloss for dry and/or chapped lips

Just want to make your lips shiny ? Fill a roll-on with castor oil or apply it directly with a brush.
